A debate is raging throughout the broad movement for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights: Is the U.S. government’s “War on Terror,�? including the war on Iraq, an issue that the LGBT movement should address?

The U.S. invasion of Iraq is wrong and must be condemned. Unfortunately, the large American peace movement could not stop the war in Iraq. We must understand that our movement prevented this war as long as we could and this itself is a victory. We know this war is only a manifestation of an ultra-right political agenda formulated by the Bush administration...

I became interested in Cuba when I started reading more books and watching less TV. It was in a magazine that I first saw an article about the US/Cuba Exchange project. I finally decided to talk to the coordinator of the project. At first, I thought I was just going on a vacation, but I was interested because I really wanted to go to Cuba.

The bulldozer that ran over and killed Rachel Corrie was a D9 Caterpillar made in America and paid for by part of the 5 billion dollars of tax money the U.S. gives to Israel each year as ‘aid.’ She was a 23-year-old college student from Washington state.
Rachel died trying to prevent the demolition of the home of Samir Nasrallah – trying to protect one small piece of land in the poorest city in one of the most devastated places in the world: Palestine.

What’s going on when radio show hosts go on a rampage smashing the Dixie Chicks? How about when federal agents harass family members of Michael Farenti’s band “Spearhead�?? Or when the famous Picasso painting “Guernica�? is covered at the United Nations when Colin Powell spoke? What’s up with MTV releasing a statement that they would not air videos because of their political content?

Hip-hop was born in New York but if you talk to most young people in São Paulo, Brazil they’ll tell you that they feel like it belongs to them.

The Bush administration is intent on plunging America into an illegitimate and pre-emptive war that will only increase danger for Americans and the world. At the same time education, healthcare, and the economy are being neglected. Its time for youth and students to take a stand for America\'s future!

Roy Rydell, sailor, communist, and teacher, died November 20th 2001 in New York City. On February 15th he would have turned 83 years old.

On the night of January 17, I found myself at Sounds of Brazil (SOB�s) in New York to see Antibalas, an Afrobeat orchestra with heavy influence from the legendary African musician and revolutionary Fela Anikulapo Kuti. Antibalas� music is very heavy and makes the body move, sometimes involuntarily, with strong trumpets and various saxophones leading a hardcore Afrobeat generated by guitars, bass, electric piano and other instruments.

"We�ve got five million ways to kill a CEO� chants Boots Riley, MC for the Progressive Hip-Hop Band �The Coup�. The Coup�s newest album, Party Music is non-stop, full of funky beats and on-point politics. The album�s lyrics address issues of corporate policies, police brutality, gender roles, and speaks out about the necessity for revolution. The issues brought up within the lyrics are very easy to relate to.

Who would think a bookbinder, an accountant, a tomboy, a vengeful comedian, and geniuses like Newton, Marie Curie and Einstein would have anything in common, let alone the formulation of E=mc2?

Every now and then a book is published that asks us to redefine our view of the past and in that redefinition, challenges us to look anew at what type of future we want. Priscilla Murolo and A. B. Chitty have written just that kind of book: From the Folks Who Brought You the Weekend, published by The New Press.

Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11 much discussion and debate has taken place among educators and on college campuses as to how the US should respond, the history of US foreign policy and whether or not the Bush sdministration�s policies will actually stop terrorism.
The Oakland Education Association (OEA) Executive Board passed a motion Sept. 20 in sympathy with the victims and pledging to be a \"voice for non-violence, defense of democratic rights and civil liberties and resistance to ethnic and religious scapegoat.\"
