In July of 2007, members of the Young Communist League-USA (YCL-USA) joined 58 other Americans on the 38th Venceremos Brigade to Cuba. The Venceremos ("We Shall Overcome") Brigade was founded in 1969 by a coalition of young people as a means of showing solidarity with the Cuban Revolution by working side by side with Cuban workers and challenging U.S. policies towards Cuba, including the economic blockade and our government’s ban on travel to the island.

Monday, March 19, 2007 will be the 4th Anniversary of the United States’ immoral and illegal invasion of Iraq. The National Youth and Student Peace Coalition (NYSPC) is asking for its members and member groups to collectively display youth and student solidarity against the war and the priorities of this country by wearing a “Books Not Bombs” button, t-shirt or armband.

On August 20-21, at the invitation of the Canadian government, the leaders of the United States, Mexico and Canada are meeting behind closed doors at Chateau Montebello, Quebec, for the third Annual Security and Prosperity Partnership Leaders Summit. The Young Communist League of Canada - La ligue de la jeunesse communiste du Canada, the Young Communist League USA, and the Juventud Comunista de Mexico joins with the young peoples in Canada, the US and Mexico in resisting the SPP.

The November Congressional Election yielded results even the most optimistic of us had not suspected with the ultra-right losing the majority in both the House and in the Senate. In March of 2003, NYSPC activists led 500 student actions to stop the war. Three years and thousands of deaths later, NYSPC is calling for actions across the country to demand an end to this disastrous occupation, and we urge young people everywhere to call upon Congress to fund BOOKS NOT BOMBS!

If you turned on the TV on November 3rd CNN mentioned to you that young people showed up at the polls but it was nothing too impressive. They told you that while the numbers went up, so did all voter-turnout numbers and there was no significant shift or big change in how many young folks showed up as compared to the rest of the population. Some of them even went so far as to blame the youth for not turning out enough to impact the elections favorably for Kerry. But the numbers tell another story.
