Time for Some Action |
What do you call a system that promotes selfishness, exploitation, racism and police brutality, military intervention, discrimination against women; a system that robs young people of jobs and educational opportunities, and allows communities to be overrun by drugs and disease?
Capitalism
What do you call a system that promotes selfishness, exploitation, racism and police brutality, military intervention, discrimination against women; a system that robs young people of jobs and educational opportunities, and allows communities to be overrun by drugs and disease?
What do you call a system that puts people out on the streets, lets children go hungry, leaves the sick and elderly without care; allows a few to become obscenely wealthy and powerful, while the majority live in greater and greater poverty and powerlessness?
Do you call it inhumane? Unjust? Crazy?
You can call it that, but you can also call it capitalism.
Most young people think there's something wrong with the 'system.' There is.What's wrong with it is capitalism. What's wrong with capitalism is that the wealth produced by the working people goes into the pockets of a small minority, the capitalists. Under capitalism the rich get richer while the poor get poorer.
Socialism
What do you call a system that promotes community, economic justice and equality; peace among nations, outlaws racial and sexual discrimination and police brutality?
What do you call a system that houses the homeless, feeds the hungry, takes care of the sick and elderly; rebuilds our cities and schools, provides jobs and education to all and puts the power of the government into the hands of the multi-racial working people not multi-billion dollar corporations?
Do you call it humane? Just? Rational?
You can call it that, but you can also call it socialism.
What's right with socialism is that the wealth produced by the people is owned by the people and goes to the service of the people.
Who we are
The Young Communist League is an organization of young workers employed and unemployed, high school and college students, Black, white, Latino, Asian and Native American young women and men. We struggle for a socialist USA, for jobs for youth, against racism and oppression and the right to an education for all.
Our Marxist-Leninist outlook helps us be better fighters for the rights of young people. It helps us understand who the real enemy is.
The enemy is not each other, it's big business. The capitalist class exploits working people and promotes racism. The enemy is not working people or organized labor. It's the corporations and banks that close factories, move jobs overseas, cut wages and force youth to work for minimum and sub-minimum wages.
The enemy is not overseas. Its not Cuba, Somalia, Yugoslavia or Japan. It's right here at home. The ruling class does its utmost to keep the peoples of the world divided. Then it can continue its imperialist policies of intervention and use Americas youth as cannon fodder.
Time for some action!
The YCL knows how to fight. We know that young people can't win alone, we need to be united. Unity of Black, Brown, white! We need to be united with the working class and the labor movement. We need a broad people's unity against big business.
The YCL is young people organizing and educating each other to fight for our rights, to understand the world and how to change it. The YCL has solutions. Big Business says our solutions won't work, but that's because they want things to stay the same.
It is possible to solve the crisis facing young people. We can:The united strength of working people, Black, Brown , yellow and white, women, gays, seniors, youth and students can force the government to solve the crisis youth face.
Capitalism is in crisis. It's a crisis that it cannot solve because it is in the very heart of the system. As was said by the great African American scholar and fighter W.E.B. Du Bois when he joined the Communist Party, USA, "Capitalism cannot reform itself; it is doomed to self destruction. No universal selfishness can bring social good to all.
We struggle for socialism because it offers young people a future. Under capitalism it is possible to win victories, but only under socialism will they be guaranteed.Socialism is inevitable because it has real solutions to the problems of capitalism. But it won't come by itself. It will come through the struggles of the people and those who consciously work for it.
