Top level Dynamic Magazine Back Issues 2005 - December

Welcome to the final issue of Dynamic for 2005!

After less than a year in office since his 2004 re-election, you don’t have to look far to see that the Bush administration is failing miserably. Despite being embroiled in scandals and under fire for their failing domestic and foreign policies, they continue to aggressively pursue policies of war and profiteering. As Bush’s first year in office in his second term winds down we can’t say that the lives of young people has improved, at all. Instead, as young people headed back to school this year we saw more of the same – increased military recruiter presence in our schools, fewer job opportunities and the continued underfunding of education.

Daily we see more evidence that the infrastructure in our country that should have been in place to protect and support the victims of Hurricanes Katrina, Rita and Wilma has been destroyed. The slow, racist and inadequate response to Katrina blew the cover off an administration that has invested billions of dollars in war and destruction around the world, while ignoring the social and economic needs of the people.

In Iraq destruction and death continues to grow. Recently the number of US servicemen and women killed in Iraq topped 2,000 – in addition to the tens of thousands of Iraqi lives that have been lost in this war for oil. As opposition in the US grows, military recruiters are having a difficult time hitting their recruitment goals. Increasingly, poor and working class youth, especially youth of color, are being targeted to join the military because of deteriorating schools, crumbling communities and lack of real options for youth. In this issue you’ll read about the growing movement to end the invasion of military recruiters into our high schools and college campuses, demanding an end to the militarization of our schools and REAL alternatives to the military.

You’ll also find an interview with the United States Students Association discussing the attack on Affirmative Action and how the right wing is working to limit access to higher education for young people of color and women.

We didn’t pull any punches with our cultural section either. This Dynamic features artwork from the Vietnam War, exclusive interviews with Chicago’s up and coming rapper Rhymefest and Shepard Fairey - the renowned "OBEY GIANT" artist, and amazing music from all over the globe.
