Resolution on Immigration

WHEREAS - The Young Communist League (YCL) recognizes that the United States was founded by Native peoples and immigrants of Latin, African, Asian, Caribbean, Pacific Islander and European decent, and

WHEREAS- US Foreign Policy often forces people to migrate to the United States for survival, and

WHEREAS- The YCL recognizes that our organization was founded in large part by youth of immigrant descent.

WHEREAS - Immigrants have always been central to the economy, society, culture, and scholarship of this country producing much more than they receive in public benefits, healthcare, education, and other services, making it clear that as a group they contribute much more than what they take.

WHEREAS - The millions who marched and boycotted on May 1st 2006 revived a valuable piece of US history (May Day) and clearly showed the world that the United States civil rights movement is passionately alive and calling for our committed participation.

WHEREAS- Many of the immigrant youth are big targets for militarization and are given little or no assistance for higher education

WHEREAS- Given the YCL’s commitment to justice for working people, we have a duty to support the efforts of immigrant youth and families towards that end;

BE IT RESOLVED – We will fight for the unification of families who have been separated from each other by unjust laws, deportation and detention policies, and

BE IT RESOLVED - We will promote rights of immigrants to have a clear and fair path to citizenship for all undocumented workers and youth in the United States. Citizenship should not be denied based on an affiliation with the Communist Party or HIV status, and

BE IT RESOLVED – We will fight for US foreign policy that promotes international peace and stability and includes just trade agreements that respects labor and human rights. We oppose current US “free” trade policies such as NAFTA and CAFTA, and

BE IT RESOLVED – We will promote and mobilize the vote in support of justice for immigrant youth and families, and

BE IT RESOLVED – We will support direct action efforts led by immigrants such as the May Day Boycott of 2006, and

BE IT RESOLVED - We will push for equal wages, education, healthcare, due-process, and public benefits for immigrant youth and families, and no to militarization of youth, and

BE IT RESOLVED – We will push for the development of competent services and agencies that communicate with immigrants in their own language, as is mandated by federal Civil Rights law, and

BE IT RESOLVED – We will promote and mobilize for a united immigrant rights movement that respects the diversity of immigrant communities, and we will fight for full unity of this movement within all people’s struggles—especially the fights for racial equality and workers’ rights.
