YCL Launches Petition Drive to Free the Cuban 5! Join in the fight! (Download)

Top level Issues & Ideas Latest News

Many in America have never heard of the Cuban 5, mostly because the media have given it little to no coverage. The Cuban 5 are Cuban nationals who were providing surveillance on rabid anti-cuba extremist groups in Miami Florida who have been linked to terrorist activities in Cuba including the 1976 bombing of Cuban Airlines flight 455 flight from Barbados to Jamaica.

All 73 people aboard flight 455 perished in the bombing which was the largest terrorist attack in the western hemisphere in it's time. The passengers consisted of 57 Cuban nationals, 11 Guyanese and 5 citizens of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Also aboard was the Cuban national fencing team who had just won all the gold medals in the Central American and Caribbean Championship, most of whom were in their teens.

With these kinds of vile attacks against Cuban civilian targets it is understandable why the Cuban government would be interested in the activities of these terrorist groups. Who's only aim is to topple the revolutionary government and kill Cuban citizens.

In Havana the 29th and 30th of April students and youth from all over the world will be convening for the Cuban 5 solidarity conference. The aim of the conference is to show the international interest in seeking justice for these five men who are known as the 5 cuban heroes in their native Cuba.

The 5 have been charges with 4 life sentences plus 77 years collectively and have not been able to recieve visits from family as the blockade against travel to and from Cuba prohibits their relatives from making the trip.

The YCL is mobilizing all of it's members to collect signatures to petition President Obama to grant the Cuban 5 a full pardon and allow them to return to their native Cuba, their families and loved ones.

YCL clubs all over the country are hitting the streets, their school yard, college campus and wherever people congregate to get the word out to the people about the Cuban 5 and to garner public support to pressure President Obama to grant the 5 the pardon they deserve for fighting terrorism.

Download the PDF below and print out your own petition to do your part to fight for justice for the Cuban 5. You can go to your local farmer's market, shopping mall or just on a busy street corner. With terrorism being such a hot button in today's American society nearly everyone can agree that these men are heroes and not criminals and deserve a medal from the American government not a jail sentence!
