Whitney Young Lawn Shut Down Due to Rampant Frolicking

Top level Dynamic Magazine Back Issues 2002 - July

Chicago - May 29, 23 students at Whitney Young High School were caught having too much fun on the school lawn. School security guards were forced to demand that students leave the school due to the school's strict "no fun" policy. School officials report that students were seen playing Frisbee, talking to their friends, and even "frolicking in a joyful manner."

When asked the possible reason for the recent outbursts of fun, the school officials believed it had something to do with a ball of fire in the sky and the resultant rise in temperature. The meeting with school officials was cut short, as they had to return to their offices to complete paperwork.

The school security team, when asked their opinion on the matter, replied emphatically that students had no excuse for their behavior. They also added, "if it weren't for those damn liberals on the school board, we could return to corporal punishment, but for now we'll stick to aggressive rudeness."

This is not by any means an isolated event. Cases of summer fun around the world are popping up. In New Zealand students were found kicking a circular object back and forth, and in Madagascar a group of young people were discovered in a coffee shop talking, some even smiling.

"Having fun" is a craze that has hit the hold world. The real question is: Is their hope for this fun loving generation of youth? We can only hope that it's not too late to help them. The youth are the future and what would our future be like if people were allowed to have fun?

Seriously though, the officials at Whitney Young, a public high school in Chicago, Illinois are beginning to enforce a rule that states that students are not to stay on school property more than 15 minutes after their last class. Students waiting for rides or to go home with friends who have later classes are forced to leave. Students of Whitney Young come from all over the city and for many students who live far from each other, the school campus is the only convenient place to hangout. Plus where's the harm? Many students are upset by this recent development but because the policy started only two weeks before the end of the school year, most students feel little can be done now. Students are now planning a petition campaign for the beginning of the next school year.
